Frequently Asked "Questions"

Gamma Phi Beta Richmond Alumnae Chapter.. What's in it for me?

01

"I'd like to check out some of the events, but I don't think I know anybody"

02

"I don't want to show up to anything because I haven't paid my dues"

03

"Don't only young women go to these things?"

If you are one of 300 or so Gamma Phi Beta alumnae in the Richmond area, you may have found yourself saying one of the above. It's true going to events with new women is a lot like participating in rush: it can be intimidating and you don't know what to expect. So here's a little information about who your sisters are in the area:

• 62% of local alumnae graduated from one of the 5 schools in Virginia—34% from William and Mary, 11% from UVA, 9% from CNU, 6% from GMU, and 2% from Virginia Tech.

• The other 38% of us are from chapters all over the US and Canada, ranging from California to Texas to Vermont to Florida.  The Richmond area attracts a lot of out-of- state transplants, and our chapter’s membership reflects that.

• You don’t have to pay dues to participate in events.  Whether or not you pay alumnae dues is between you and International Headquarters.  If you would like to be a dues-paying member of the local chapter, dues are $40 a year and are normally collected around Founders’ Day.  But please feel free to come out even if you haven’t paid!

• 34% of alumnae in the Richmond area graduated in the year 2000 or later.  10% graduated in 1960 or earlier.  25% of our alumnae live in the West End, 25% live on the Southside, and another 10% live in the city.

As you can see, the Richmond Alumnae Chapter offers a little bit of something for everyone. We hope you'll come out to an event and get to know your local sisters soon!
